Before embarking on a project, we carefully consider the surrounding area. Once we’ve done our research, the location and history of the site informs our concept. “We consider the location not only in terms of the geography,” Vabel co-founder and Creative Director Jeremy Spencer says, “but in terms of what is happening in the area in terms of the local community – the stories that happen on the street.”
We like to build a full picture about how we imagine people will live, and that process can happen quite quickly. “Once we become involved with a site, we want to have an established idea about what it can become,” Jeremy says. It’s a complex process, but as soon as our area research begins, ideas naturally begin to develop. We recognise the importance of complementing existing communities, not imposing something on them.
Our homes are designed for those quiet moments as well as when you’re entertaining friends. But equally, we understand the need for spaces outside of the home where you can feel welcome, whether you’re taking time to recharge by walking in the park, meeting up with friends at your local pub or heading to the café for your morning coffee and croissant.
We want our homes to be connected to their environments and for them to be embedded in the local neighbourhood, so that you effortlessly become a part of the community. It’s important to feel connected, not only to the cafes, shops and public spaces around you, but also to the people who you encounter along the way. We believe in vibrant neighbourhoods, where everyone feels welcome and has something to bring to the table.
Those first hours you spend exploring your new area should be full of pleasant surprises. So we hope it takes the pressure off to know that we’ve done the research for you, and that the location of each Vabel home has been considered to make it a natural process for you to settle in and start enjoying the local area.
Being connected is so important, so we’ll always consider how easy it is to get around, whether by bus, train, tube or bike. We hope that means you don’t have to worry about how you’ll get home from your friend’s place, that night out in town, or a longer trip.
Even as you settle into new routines, we hope you keep on discovering the little things that make your neighbourhood feel like home. Those may change as the years pass, and that’s what makes moving into a new place so exciting – the anticipation of things to come.
We’d love to recommend places where we’d while away the hours. Hopefully you’ll find our area guides useful, and let us know if there’s anything specific you’re looking for.
