Vabel Lawrence
Seven Sisters
Fine brick detailing and elegant arches; solid, earthy materials and lush gardens. A place with a timeless, sophisticated feel – fresh yet established. Up above, a verdant rooftop creates space for play and quiet reflection to the panoramic backdrop of London skyline. While in the surrounding areas, the city hums and thrives.

Do you gravitate to the kitchen as soon as you get in? That’s partly a natural need to refuel, but also it’s the magnetic pull to a place you associate with the warmth and aromas of home cooking and winding down with friends and family. It’s a sanctuary that deserves rich tones and materials, including raw plaster-coloured cupboards, a matt terracotta splashback and the comforting, stony solidity of Italian Quartz worktops.

People often talk about the flow of a home – a design that combines function with aesthetics and ultimately creates a happy space. The homes at Vabel Blackheath have considered flow with floor to ceiling doorways that instantly amplify the feel of volume. Wall-mounted fixings increase the sense of space and add a subtle and soft warehouse aesthetic.

Large windows flood the room with light, lift your mood and lead the eye – and the imagination – to beyond four walls. Similarly, layers of colour and textures steer the gaze and gently demarcate different spaces. There is abundant integrated storage space to clear away the clutter, including bespoke-designed wardrobe joinery and cupboards to hide the washing machine. Clear home, clear mind.

In the living room, surface-mounted fittings and exposed concrete soffits balance that softness with a nod to industrial design. The soffits also bring tangible comfort by helping to retain the heat on cold days or cool things down when the weather heats up.

Bathrooms are a place of beauty, too, elevating bathing from a mundane routine to valuable me-time to savour and enjoy. Matt terracotta infuses warmth into the wall tiles, and brushed bronze brassware provides an elegant focal point.

The Royal Park with arguably the best views in London. Where else provides a hilltop vantage point that spans east to west in this way, with buildings as magnificent as Inigo Jones’s Queen’s House set against a backdrop of the steely skyscrapers of Canary Wharf and the City? These undulating 180 acres of greenery include a boating lake, Roman ruins, the Royal Observatory and the descendants of Henry VIII’s deer. A true Greenwich gem.

Greenwich Town Centre and Blackheath Village are awash with coffee shops, but local connoisseurs swear by 15 Grams, the small-batch roastery that has branches in both locations. This is coffee with a conscience - sustainably-grown, supporting farming communities by paying a fair price. The Blackheath branch turns into cocktail club every Thursday and Friday evening too.

Deptford has an arty vibe running through its veins – and The Albany arts centre is a hugely diverse and life-enhancing hub for creative spirits. From weekly “youth takeovers” and roller discos to Jazz Saturdays, writing workshops, theatre and comedy, Albany encourages people to tell their stories and reach their creative potential in an inclusive space.

This nearly 300-year-old market in the heart of Maritime Greenwich’s UNESCO World Heritage Site is loved as much by locals as tourists – its dozens of food stalls a daily draw, along with the many artisan stalls and independent boutiques that surrounded the cobblestoned market hall.

Whether you are a total beginner or full-on yogi, this Deptford-based hub is a welcoming space that offers classes, workshops and foreign retreats. Among the yogic varieties on offer are rocket, restorative, pregnancy and 4-Beat – and once a month, you can even practise Vinyasa Flow in the stunning Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College.

Inspired by Japanese listening bars from the 1950s, Jazu brings the concept of cocktails, small plates and “deep listening” to this late-night Deptford venue. The music is purely vinyl (there are 3,000 to choose from on the record wall), played in a bespoke DJ booth on a locally-made sound system. Expect to find some high-profile DJs from South London’s prolific live music scene.

Held in the heart of Blackheath, Blackheath Farmers' Market brings together local producers, seasonal produce and artisan goods – a vibrant weekly market celebrating fresh food and community spirit.

The Cheeseboard is a beloved independent deli and wine bar known for its artisan cheeses, charcuterie and relaxed neighbourhood charm – perfect for leisurely lunches and evening drinks.
